From December 4 to 6, 2020, the First Bilateral Forum between the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology & Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the School of Chemical and Materials Engineering, Jiangnan University was successfully held in Room A316 of the Chemical Engineering Building. The forum brought together experts and scholars from both institutions to exchange insights on the latest research achievements and development trends in their respective fields.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Hengwei Lin from the School of Chemical and Materials Engineering, Jiangnan University. He extended a warm welcome to the attending experts and scholarsand expressed his hope that the forum would serve as a platform for in-depth academic communication and foster the establishment of a long-term bilateral communication channel between the two insititutions. Subsequently, Professor Weifu Dong, Dean of the School of Chemical and Materials Engineering, Jiangnan University, introduced the school’s history, disciplinary development, faculty structure, research achievements, talent cultivation, and international exchanges. He also expressed his expectations for sustained and in-depth cooperation with the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology & Engineering, CAS. Following this,Tao Chen, Deputy Director of the Institute of Materials Technology at the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology & Engineering, CAS, delivered a speech and provided an overview of the institute.

The forum featured a total of 13 thematic presentations. Eight researchers from the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology & Engineering, CAS—XiaoqingLiu, Fu Liu, Junqiang Wang, Hongxin Yang, Tao Chen, Tao Zhang, Yinjun Xie, and Zhiyi Lu—delivered high-level academic reports on topics including"Integrated Structural and Functional Design and Synthesis of Sustainable Thermosetting Resins," "Interface Design and Separation Applications of Polymer Microporous Membranes for Environmental Applications," "Amorphous Alloys—Infinite Possibilities Born from Disorder," "Theoretical Studies on Topological Magnetic Structures," "Deformation-Responsive Smart Polymer Materials," "Interfacial Construction and Applications of Polymer Nanofilm Materials," "Research on Novel Organic Hydrogen Storage Materials and Related Catalytic Technologies," and "Multiscale Studies on Electrocatalytic Electrodes."Faculty members from Jiangnan Unicersity, Professor Ren Liu, Professor Yang Lou, Professor Jing Luo, Associate Professor Xuhui Zhang, and Professor Zhiguo Gu presented detailed reports on their respective research progress, with topics such as "Near-Infrared Light-Induced Polymerization Systems Based on Upconversion Materials," "Enhancing Selective Activation of C=O in Unsaturated Aldehydes Using 'Pocket-Type' Single-Atom Active Sites," "Construction of Multifunctional Polymer Microcapsules via Pickering Emulsion Method and Their Applications in Coatings," "Rubber Modification and Performance Enhancement Based on Network Structure Design," and "Controllable Transformation of Two-Dimensional Metal-Organic Frameworks and Their Electrocatalytic Performance."

In the closing session, Qingwei Pan, Party Secretary of the School of Chemical and Materials Engineering, Jiangnan University, expressed sincere gratitude to the experts and scholars for sharing such insightful academic reports. He conveyed his anticipation for further exchanges and cooperation with Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology & Engineering, CAS. As the inaugural bilateral forum between the school and Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology & Engineering, CAS, this event provided a high-level platform for scientific research exchange, offering a valuable opportunity to broaden academic horizons and enhance scholarly thinking. The forum was characterized by a vibrant academic atmosphere, with active participation and engagement from faculty and students, who made full use of the opportunity for learning and exchange, yielding positive outcomes. Moving forward, the school will continue to promote such bilateral exchanges with Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology & Engineering, CAS, further strengthening exchanges and cooperation in the field of materials science, and vigorously promoting the development and advancement of related disciplines at the university.
